Background Summary
The formation of Pondicherry Chapter of ISHBT was initiated by Dr. Rakhee Kar, Associate Professor, Department of Pathology, JIPMER, Puducherry in January 2016 with the main objective of strengthening hematology community in and around Puducherry. She had been elected as Executive Committee Member of the parent body ISHBT In Nov 2015 and was Associate Editor of IJHBT since Nov 2014.

The senior faculty in Puducherry associated with ISHBT including immediate Past President of ISHBT, Prof. Dr. T.K. Dutta were consulted and all of them concurred with the idea of forming this society. Permission from the headquarters was sought to form this chapter via e-mails and confirmation was given by Dr. H.P.Pati, Professor of Hematology, AIIMS, New Delhi and Honorary Secretary of ISHBT and Editor-In-Chief of IJHBT and Dr. Manoranjan Mahapatra, Professor of Hematology, AIIMS, New Delhi and Hon. General Secretary of ISHBT.

As mentioned in ‘The GUIDELINES for a new ISHBT Chapter’, 10 ISHTM life members from Puducherry enlisted in the table were involved in the initiation. The first formal meeting of the founder members was held in Room No. 3041, Department of Pathology (Hematology Section), 2nd floor, Institute Block, JIPMER, Puducherry-605006 on 12.1.16 at 3.30 pm. The meeting was conducted successfully and as per the agenda, the founder office bearers [Executive Committee] was formed by nomination and concurrence of members present. The first draft of rules and regulations was laid down including decision on membership types and fees, subsequent electoral process and conduct of scientific sessions.

This was further refined in the 2nd meeting of the founder members held in Room No. 3041, Department of Pathology (Hematology Section), 2nd floor, Institute Block, JIPMER, Puducherry-605006 on 19.1.16 at 3.30 pm. It was decided to send the documents for approval and NOC to the headquarters and JIPMER Administration.

Objectives

  1. To strengthen and popularize Hematology services in and around Puducherry.
  2. To contribute to the academic growth of Hematology as a branch by holding regular scientific sessions.
  3. To bring together clinicians, basic scientists and lab personnel involved in Hematology and related disciplines for holistic patient care approach.

Rules and Regulations
A. Governance

  1. The Executive committee is responsible for the governance of the society
  2. The Executive committee will meet from time to time to look after the day to day functioning of the society. There will be at least two meetings of the EC annually to decide on grant of membership and academic activities as mentioned subsequently. Apart from this, meetings can be convened for any other purpose if required. All decisions will be taken with concurrence of majority of members present.
  3. The Executive committee will review the rules and regulations. Amendment to the rules can be done by concurrence of more than 50 percent of members present.

B. Election process

  1. All the office bearers will be elected by an electoral process unless the post is uncontested.
  2. Office bearers ( Executive Committee ) have to be life members of the society
  3. The term for holding office will be for a period of two years.
  4. Elections will be held at the GBM of the biannual conference and president of the society will preside over it. Nominations for various posts have to reach the secretariat one month prior.
  5. Only life members of the chapter are eligible to cast their vote.

C. Membership
Membership Types

  1. Life member
    • Faculty/Consultant/Practitioner/Senior Resident/DM (Fellows) who are pursuing a career in Hematology/related streams with minimum qualification of MD/DNB/Ph.D./DCP.
    • General Practitioner/Assistant Clinical Pathologist/Technicians who are pursuing a career in Hematology/related streams with at least 10 Years of experience after a minimum qualification of MBBS/ BSc. MLT.
    • Trainee members will be upgraded as life members after getting qualifying degree.
  2. Trainee Member
    • MD/DNB/Ph.D./MSc Students who are pursuing a career in Hematology/related streams (Pathology, Transfusion Medicine, Medicine, Pediatrics, Medical Oncology, Immunology etc.)

Membership Fees: One time fees of Rs.1500/-

Note:

  1. Trainee membership will be upgraded to life membership after qualifying degree.
  2. Degree/experience certificate has to be furnished along with membership application form.

Membership form
All applications shall be made in prescribed format. This will be available at the secretariat and will be made available in the website when it is launched.

Membership Review
All applications for membership will be reviewed and approved by the EC. The annual memberships will commence from 1st April to 31st March (financial year). All members will be intimated their membership number after approval of the EC.

D. Academic activities
The society will hold a biannual conference. The proposal for holding subsequent conferences should be put up in the GBM which during the conferences and will be passed by majority with concurrence of the EC.
The society will conduct annual CMEs and workshops. The proposal for conduct of CME’s & workshops should be sent to the secretariat at least two months in advance and will be confirmed after the EC meeting.
The organizing committee of the above mentioned academic activities will be responsible for the overall conduct of the scientific sessions.
